Blackburn was a four-time letter winner in both basketball and baseball for the Huskies, helping his team to the Pennsylvania State Teacher's College Championship with a perfect 12-0 record. After college, Blackburn became a very successful high school basketball coach finishing his career with a record of 527-183. Among his accomplishments was winning a state PCIAA crown with St. Joseph's of Williamsport and eight PIAA District Four titles at Williamsport High School. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
