Linkchorst was four-year starter in football and basketball and a three-year starter in baseball for Bloomsburg. He earned 11 varsity letters during his athletic career on teams which never suffered a losing season. Professionally, he played for the Boston Whirlwinds (1953-54) which toured the world with the Harlem Globetrotters. Linkchorst coached for 14 years at the Mahanoy Area High School, compiling a 251-79 record. He led his team to nine league championships and a 48-consecutive game winning streak.
