Prosseda was a six-time Pennsylvania Conference champion in track and field and cross country. He never lost a race in high school or college in the half-mile, mile and two-mile events while compiling a 76-0 individual record. He placed second in the 1965 NCAA championship three-mile race, losing by one second and missing the national record by two seconds. Prosseda competed in the Olympic Trials in the 5,000 meters in 1964. In 1984, he was awarded All-American status, giving him the honor of being the first and only American (including former Olympians) to attain both collegiate and master's All-American status. That same year, Prosseda also set national age-group record times in the one-, two- and three-mile runs. In addition, his time in the 5,000 meters was the fifth fastest master's time in the world. Prosseda was the only American qualifier in the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the World Masters and is the only runner to win his age group in the Harrisburg Mile, Capitol 5,000, Kipona 10,000 and Harrisburg National Marathon.
