Nelson Field House
The Nelson Field House, located on Bloomsburg University’s upper campus, serves as home for the university’s indoor athletic events, university concerts, and as an academic space. The facility was constructed in 1971 and the first events were held in December 1972 - the Huskies men's basketball team won the very first event held in the building on Dec. 2, 1972 - a 79-51 win over West Chester.
Â
Nelson Field House underwent a $13.4 million dollar facelift in 2007-09. Among the renovations to the field house were a new bleacher system for the main gym area, a new scoreboard, a new wrestling room on the lower level of the facility, a new and expanded press box, dedicated locker rooms for each sport, including an expanded football locker room, improved office space and additional storage space. In addition, the pool area has been completely renovated with improved lighting, new bleachers, new starting blocks, improved timing system and record board. The project also enhanced both the upper and lower entrances that will showcase the awards the teams have won over the last three decades. The renovation project was completed in August of 2009.
Â
Additional features have been added including a student-athlete study lounge, branding and signage recognition throughout the space, two athletic training spaces, an academic and athletic weight room, and the permanent Hall of Fame display.Â
Â
The basketball court surface was refinished in the summer of 2015, the fall of 2017, and in the fall of 2020.
During the 2021 summer, Nelson Field House and Gymnasium underwent a floor resurfacing in the main gymnasium floor along with entire new lighting through the entire gym, replacing all lights with LED illuminations which meet NCAA hosting specifications and provided resource savings.
