Flanagan Helps Huskies to Easy Win

Freshman guard scores 15, adds 8 boards and 8 assists

BRONXVILLE, NY-Freshman guard Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland, Hazleton Area) scored a season-high 15 points and added eight rebounds and eight assists as Bloomsburg University defeated Concordia College 75-50 in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night.

The Huskies (4-1) started the game on a 28-4 run over the game's first 9:18. Three-pointers by Flanagan, freshman guard Dana Wieller (Bethlehem, Liberty) and sophomore guard Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South) helped Bloomsburg open up the huge first half lead. The Clippers fought back, outscoring Bloomsburg 16-11 during the remaining 10:42 to bring the Huskies lead to 39-20 at the half.

Bloomsburg would again go on the attack in the second half with three-pointers from Wieller and freshman guard Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland, Tri-Valley) to stretch the lead to 55-24 with 14:29 remaining. Concordia would try to chip away at the Huskies lead, but Bloomsburg continuously came up huge on the defensive end, converting turnovers by the Clippers into points, finishing with a 25-point win.

Flanagan shot 5-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, adding two steals and a block for the Huskies. Wieller connected on 4-of-7 three-point attempts, scoring 14 points and freshman forward Christine Sereta (Drums, Hazleton Area)added 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting with three blocks and two steals.

The Huskies take a week off before returning to the court next Wednesday when they host Penn State-Schuylkill. Tip-off from the Nelson Field House is set for 6:00 p.m.
