CLARION - The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost to Clarion 71-52 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cross-over action on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles started the game on a 14-2 run, including two three-pointers by Bethany Koch, in the first 5:16. Clarion would stretch its lead to 25-8 with 6:35 remaining before a three-pointer by freshman guard Tanejha Smith (Allentown, William Allen) brought the Huskies deficit down to 14. Bloomsburg would then finish the half on a 7-2 run, going in at halftime down 27-18.
The Huskies would cut the lead to just six at 29-23 just 2:41 into the second half after a layup and a three-pointer by sophomore guard Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South). But Clarion would answer with another 14-2 run over the next 5:21 to stretch its lead to 43-25 with 11:58 remaining before winning by 19 points.
Gallagher led the Huskies with 18 points, 15 coming in the second half. Freshman forward Christine Sereta (Drums, Hazleton Area) added 10 rebounds for Bloomsburg.
The Huskies (8-4) open their 2009-10 PSAC East schedule on Wednesday when they travel to Cheyney to take on the Wolves. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
