BLOOMSBURG – In her first 12 appearances this season, Bloomsburg University senior
Ashley Miller (Shermans Dale, West Perry) scored one goal. After Wednesday afternoon, Miller's season goals have quadrupled, as the Shermans Dale native recorded her second career hat-trick, leading the third-ranked Huskies (13-2, 6-1 PSAC East) to a 9-0 domination of fifth-ranked Kutztown University (9-7, 4-4) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey action at Sports Stadium.
Miller got the action going in the fourth minute. After injecting a penalty corner to junior
Amanda Riley (Tannersville, Pocono Mountain East), Miller was in position to slide home the game's first goal from two yards away.
Less than five minutes later, Riley collected her own shot off the pads of Kutztown keeper Emily Falko and directed the ball into the cage to put Bloomsburg up 2-0.
In the 19th minute, another ineffective save from Falko gave
Amanda Deloy (Milton, DE, Cape Henlopen) a second chance on her own shot, and the senior succeeded on the follow through to give BU a 3-0 advantage.
Riley scored her second goal of the day in the 23rd minute, improving her season total to a team-high 14.
Brieann Wolfe (Perkasie, Pennridge) contributed with her second assist of the year, and the Huskies led 4-0 at the intermission.
Early in the second half, a long by Bloomsburg's
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top, Crestwood) ricocheted off the right post and found the stick of Miller, who slid in her second goal of the match.
Moments later,
Lauren McGinley (Wilkes-Barre, Coughlin) saved a Bloomsburg drive with a diving effort to keep the ball inbounds along the Golden Bears' goal line. While off the ground, she directed the ball across the cage to an open Miller, who capitalized on excellent positioning for her third goal of the game.
Leading 6-0, the Huskies had no intention of letting the pressure down during the game's final 10 minutes.
Lindsay Danz (Rehoboth Beach, DE, Sussex Technical) recovered a save off KU keeper Karly Waltman for her third goal of the season, while
Alexis Weber (Bear, DE, William Penn) accomplished the same feat for her fifth on the year.
In the game's closing minutes, Bloomsburg struck one final time with a well-executed penalty corner attack. Wolfe's injection found Weber, who slid the ball to Deloy at the top of the arc. With the long shot finding the back of the net, the Huskies sealed their 9-0 victory and clinched at least a share of the PSAC East regular-season title.
Bloomsburg keeper
Meghan Hollenbach (Blandon, Fleetwood) came out of the game with just under 15 minutes to play. Hollenbach saved both of KU's shots on net during her tenure, while replacement
Megan Eppley (Camp Hill, Camp Hill) stopped the only shot she faced, as the pair worked together for a combined shutout. Falko had six saves during the game's first 35 minutes, while Waltman tallied five during the second half.
Up next, the team hosts PSAC West rival Mansfield University at noon this Saturday, November 6.
