Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland, Tri-Valley)'s game-high 27 points were a career best and propelled the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 69-53 win over Nyack College in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Nelson Field House. With the win, the Huskies (4-0) remain undefeated on the season, while Nyack dropped to 2-3.
The first half featured back-and-forth action throughout, as both teams fought to take control of the game. Oxenrider started the game 3 for 3 from three-point territory and scored the Huskies' first 11 points; she would go on to have a season and team-high six rebounds. Nyack kept in the mix with five offensive rebounds, scoring seven points on second-chance opportunities. The opening period featured eight lead changes and four ties, as Bloomsburg carried its largest lead into the intermission with the score 25-22.
In the second half, Bloomsburg's efforts broke the game open, earning the Huskies a 47-33 advantage midway through the period.
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem, Liberty) put 14 on the scoreboard in the half, finishing with 21 points, 4 steals and 4 assists. For the entire period, Bloomsburg responded to every Nyack charge; the Warriors never scored more than five unanswered, and the Huskies held on for the 69-53 victory.
Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland, Hazleton Area) played a key role in the win, dishing out seven assists.
Bloomsburg next travels to Philadelphia University on Saturday, December 4 for a 2 p.m. game.
