MANSFIELD-Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to an 87-54 win over Mansfield University on Wednesday night. The win keeps the Huskies in the hunt for a berth in next week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs.
With the Mountaineers leading, 7-5, in the opening minutes of play, Bloomsburg was able to grab control of the game with a 15-0 run. Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland, Tri-Valley) hit two three-pointers in the rally, while Gallagher chipped in with five points for the Huskies. Bloomsburg continued to build on its lead and led by 20 points with a minute to play in the opening half after a layup from Gallagher.
In the second half the Huskies got red-hot from the floor and shot 67 percent from the field (20-30) in the final 20 minutes and defensively never led the Mounties get closer than 16 points, the final time coming with 18:57 to go in the game. The Huskies did push its lead to as many as 38 points (80-42) late in the game on a basket by Lauren Ellis (Bangor, Bangor) before settling for the 33-point margin of victory. Along with Gallagher's 24 points, Dana Wieller (Bethlehem, Liberty) scored 18 points, while Oxenrider finished with 12 and Lauren Biczelewski (West Chester, Bayard Rustin) chipped in with 11. Mansfield was led by Mallory Moore with 19 points.
With the win the Huskies improve to 15-10, 7-6 in the PSAC East, while Mansfield falls to 5-20, 2-11 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg will close out its regular season on Saturday at Kutztown starting at 1 p.m.
