Box Score

BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University field hockey team won its home opener, defeating the Panthers of Adelphi University, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon.

Just 7:43 into the first half, junior Amanda Riley (Tannersville, Pocono Mountain East) slipped the ball into the left corner of the net, beating Adelphi junior goalie Lucia Vigliotti to put BU up 1-0. The goal was Riley's third of the year.

Later in the first half, sophomore Alexis Weber (Bear, DE, William Penn) took the feed from Riley and netted her second goal of the season putting Bloomsburg up 2-0 at the half.

The Panthers cut the lead to 2-1 later in the second half when Julianne Gerbino posted her first goal of the season, scoring on BU goalie Meghan Hollenbach (Blandon, Fleetwood).

The final goal for the Huskies sealed the victory for BU, when junior Betsy Renn (Herndon, Line Mountain) took a shot on goal, but Vigliotti made a great kicksave on the ball. Senior Ashley Miller (Shermans Dale, West Perry) found the ball and drove home a shot that found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Bloomsburg held a 20-3 shots advantage and a 15-6 penalty corner advantage.

Hollenbach made one save in net while Vigliotti stopped nine BU shots.
