BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South) scored a team-high 13 points, but it wasn't enough as the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost to Shippensburg University, 69-66, on Wednesday night in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Eastern Division matchup.

Shippensburg raced out to an early eight point lead, 12-4, through the first four minutes of the game on a three-pointer by Kasey Gardner. The Lady Raiders extended the edge to 13 points, 35-22, with 6:33 to go before the Huskies started to rally.

Using a 16-5 run to end the half, Bloomsburg pulled to within two points at the break, 40-38. Gallagher scored eight points to lead the Huskies late first half surge.

The Huskies came out to start the second half and wasted little time grabbing a lead using a Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland, Tri-Valley)three-pointer at the 17:44 mark to take their first lead of the night at 43-42. Bloomsburg slowly built the lead to eight points over the next 10 minutes of play taking a 60-52 lead on another three-pointer from Oxenrider with 7:17 to play in the game.

Shippensburg came back and cut the lead back to 62-60 on a three-pointer by Dana Wert with 3:41 to play. After a jumper by Gallagher made it 64-60, Gardner hit a three-pointer making it a one point game with 2:02 left. Oxenrider then scored on the Huskies next possession for a 66-63 lead.

Gardner was later fouled and hit two free throws making it 66-65 in favor of the Huskies. After Bloomsburg missed on its next trip down, Wert was fouled and hit both of her free throws putting the Lady Raiders back on top 67-66 with 59 seconds to play.

After a turnover by the Huskies, Shippensburg was working the clock down. With 16 seconds to play Gardner turned the ball over with Gallagher making the steal. However, before the Huskies could get off a shot, they turned the ball over with Wert coming up with the steal. She then went in uncontested for a layup with two seconds to play.

The Huskies called timeout to set up a last second shot, but Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area)'s shot from just over midcourt was off the mark.

Bloomsburg, 10-5, 2-1 PSAC East, got 13 points from Gallagher, while Oxenrider finished with 11 points and Lauren Ellis (Bangor, Bangor) 10 points off the bench. Shippensburg, 7-8, 2-1 PSAC East, got 28 points from Gardner and 10 from Wert.

The Huskies play at Cheyney on Saturday at 1 p.m.
