Gallagher Leads Bloomsburg to Easy Win

Huskies win 83-58 Wednesday

MANSFIELD—Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South)scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to an 83-58 win over Mansfield on Wednesday night in PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Eastern Division action.

Behind a red-hot Gallagher the Huskies jumped out to a 17-7 through the first six minutes of the play. In those opening minutes Gallagher drained four three-pointers to help Bloomsburg grab an early 10-point edge.

After Mansfield cut the lead back to 19-12, the Huskies went on a 17-5 run to blow the game open. In the rally the Huskies drained five more three-pointers, including two by Hannah Geedey (Lewistown, Lewistown), to lead 36-17 with six minutes left in the half.

In the second the Mountaineers trimmed the 15-point Bloomsburg halftime lead back to 11 points, 48-37, with just under 14 minutes to play. The Huskies responded outscoring Mansfield 14-4 over the next three and a half minutes to take a 62-41 lead.

The Huskies pushed the lead to as many as 26 late in the game before settling for the 25-point margin of victory. As a team Bloomsburg made 18 three-pointers to tie a school record set against PSU-Schuylkill on Dec. 12, 2009.

Gallagher tied her career-high in three-pointers made in a game with six in scoring her 22 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out seven assists. Dana Wieller (Bethlehem, Liberty) scored 17 points, while Courtney Nyce (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) also hit double figures with 10 points. For Mansfield, 6-11, 1-4 PSAC East, Meredith Hafer scored 10 points.

Bloomsburg, 12-5, 4-1 PSAC East, hosts West Chester on Saturday at 1 p.m.
