Wieller Nets 23 in Women's Basketball Loss

BLOOMSBURG—Despite a team-high 23 points from Dana Wieller (Bethlehem, Liberty) the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team lost to Indiana, Pa. 84-62 on Monday night at the Nelson Field House.

The Crimson Hawks came out fast and led by 10 points, 14-4, through the first five minutes of the game. The lead later stretched to as many as 23 points before the Huskies began chipping away at the deficit. Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland, Hazleton Area) scored six straight points and Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland, Tri-Valley) added five points in an 18-7 run to pull Bloomsburg to within 12 points at 44-32 with 2:23 to go in the half.

Coming out of the locker room facing a 16-point deficit, the Huskies went on an 11-4 run, including a pair of three-pointers from Wieller and one from Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland, Tri-Valley), to get within nine points at 52-43 with 17:13 to play.

IUP rallied and pushed the lead to 60-45 before Bloomsburg would rally again. A jumper from Flanagan and free throw from Oxenrider made it 60-48 with 12:20 to go. Danielle Derr (Dresner, Upper Dublin)then scored on a layup after taking a pass from Oxenrider and Wieller converted a layup and suddenly IUP was up just eight points at 60-52 with 11:15 to play.

That would be as close as the Huskies would get though. IUP outscored the Huskies 24-10 over the final 11 minutes to pull away for the win.

Vianca Tejada led IUP (5-4) with a game-high 25 points, while Eryn Withers added 15 with Lacey Clarr getting 12 and Katelyn Marshall scoring 11.

Wieller hit three three-pointers in the loss and finished with 23 points for Bloomsburg (7-2), while Flanagan added 11 points and four assists.

The Huskies will be back in action on Tuesday hosting California, Pa at 5:30 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
