SLIPPERY ROCK—
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem, Liberty) scored a game-high 21 points and
Hannah Geedey (Lewistown, Lewistown) scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 75-46 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies led from start to finish in the game. Wieller got off to a hot start scoring eight points, including two three-pointers, in the opening six minutes of play as Bloomsburg led 13-7 with 14:22 left in the first. A layup from
Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South) later gave the Huskies an eight point edge at 15-7.
Slippery Rock would come back using a 7-0 run to narrow the gap down to one before the Huskies used a 9-2 run to regain the eight point lead. In the run for the Huskies Geedy hit back-to-back three pointers with Gallagher adding one of her own.
In the second half with the Huskies leading by five, 29-24, Bloomsburg put together a 20-7 run over a four minute stretch to break the game open. Geedy drained two more three three-pointers in the rally, while Gallagher scored seven points to put the Huskies on top 49-31 with 11:33 to play.
Late in the game the Huskies led by as many as 30 points after a basket from
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem, Liberty)before leaving with a 29-point win.
Wieller, ranked 10th in Division II in scoring going into the game, netted her average of 21 points while hitting on five of seven from three-point range. Gallagher added 16 points and now needs 21 points to reach 1,000 for her career. Geedy added a career-high 15 points, all on three pointers as she hit five of eight from long range.
Slippery Rock, 1-10, got 12 points from Danielle Smith in the loss.
Bloomsburg, 8-3, plays at Mercyhurst on Sunday at 1 p.m.
