MILLERSVILLE—The top-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team scored two second-half goals to beat Millersville, 2-0, on Tuesday.
The game was scoreless in the opening half despite the Huskies holding a 6-3 edge in shots on goal and a 4-2 edge in penalty corners.
Bloomsburg finally broke out on top in the 46th minute when
Amber Aulenbach (Fleetwood/Oley Valley) scored off an
Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) assist. The goal for Aulenbach was her fourth of the season, while Riley picked up her team-high seventh assist.
The Huskies added to their lead in the 56th minute when
Alexis Weber (Bear, DE/William Penn) took a pass from
Lindsay Danz (Rehoboth Beach, DE/Sussex Technical) and made it a 2-0 advantage for Bloomsburg.
Bloomsburg, the top-ranked team in Division II, got another great effort from its defense led by
Betsy Renn (Herndon/Line Mountain) and
Becca Sherman (Milford/Delaware Valley), as Millersville managed just five shots on goal for the game.
The Huskies improved to 13-0 on the year with the victory, 6-0 in the PSAC East. Millersville, ranked ninth, fell to 7-7, 1-6 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg will host Kutztown on Thursday in a make-up game starting at 4 p.m.
