Field Hockey Concludes Perfect Regular Season

BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—Brittany Mathews (Reedsville/Indian Valley) scored the game winner in overtime to lift Bloomsburg University past the Pioneers of C.W. Post (9-7, 4-6 PSAC East), 2-1.  With the win the Huskies conclude the regular season with a perfect 17-0 overall record and a 10-0 mark in the PSAC East.

After a scoreless first half, C.W. Post's Lyn-Marie Wilson broke the scoreless tie at the 41:18 mark.  Wilson scored her goal by redirecting a pass by teammate Helene Bruckner in front of the net for the score.

At the 45:31 mark Nicole Bruce (Dalton/Lackawanna Trail) tied things up by burying a shot in front of the net.  The goal was set up after a shot from BU's Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) was saved, leaving the ball in front of the net where Bruce finished the play.  Neither team scored for the remainder of regulation as the game remained tied at 1-1.

Overtime did not last long as Brittany Mathews (Reedsville/Indian Valley) scored the game winning goal just 1:30 into the overtime period.  Riley set up the goal by bringing the ball towards the goal on the end line, drawing out the C.W. Post goalie.  From there Riley sent a cross to Mathews who flicked the ball into the open net for the game winner.

Meghan Hollenbach (Blandon/Fleetwood) made three saves in net for the Huskies while Devon Trenkle came up with five.  The Huskies outshot the Pioneers 9-6 and also held the advantage in penalty corners, 15-5.

Bloomsburg will be back in action on Friday, October 28 as the Huskies participate in the PSAC semifinals at 1:00 p.m..  BU has earned the no. 1 seed in the PSAC East and will wait to play the winner between West Chester and the no. 3 seed, who has yet to be determined.
