Gallagher Leads Women's Basketball To Win

BLOOMSBURG—Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) scored 19 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to an 83-61 win over the University of the Sciences on Wednesday night at the Nelson Field House.
 
The Devils held the early edge in the game jumping out to an 8-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Huskies, though, came storming back and went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to lead 13-10. Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) hit a three-pointer and a layup for Bloomsburg in the rally.
 
The Huskies slowly extended their lead to 26-16 led by eight points from Gallagher. Bloomsburg later took a 14-point lead, 35-21, on a bucket by Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) before going to the break leading by 13 points.
 
In the second half the Devils chipped away at the lead closing to within six points, 52-46, with 10:13 to play. But, Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) nailed a three-pointer to kick-start the Huskies on a 13-0 run to give the team a 65-46 advantage. In the run Flanagan and Wieller both scored five points.

From there the closest the Devils would get is 15 points with the Huskies biggest leads coming at 81-58 on a basket by Marla Simmons (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) with 1:52 to play.
 
Along with Gallagher getting 19 points, Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored 17, Flanagan 13 and Oxenrider 12 for the Huskies now 3-0 on the year.
 
The Devils, 1-2, got 19 points from, Elsebeth Birman, one of three players in double figures.
 
The Huskies host Lock Haven on Saturday at 1 p.m.
