Box Score BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG—Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 73-55 win over Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon.

With the Huskies leading by just three, 44-41, with 13:30 to play in the game, Bloomsburg used an 15-2 run over the next seven minutes to break open the game. Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) started the rally with back-to-back baskets before Colleen Nosovitch (Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic) put the Huskies on top 50-41. Wieller and Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) sandwiched a pair of jumpers around a basket from Lock Haven's Kacie Hershey.  Marla Simmons (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) then hit a pair of free throws to give Bloomsburg a 13-point lead before a Wieller three-pointer and a Danielle Derr (Dresner/Upper Dublin) layup gave the Huskies their biggest lead of the game at that point, 61-43.

Lock Haven would close back to within 13 points with 3:47 to play, but that would be as close as the Lady Eagles would get. Bloomsburg later stretched its lead to 20 points on two free throws from Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) before the Huskies settled for the 18 point win.

The game was tight in the opening half of play. Lock Haven held an early lead before the Huskies came back using a 9-2 run to take an 11-8 lead. Wieller drained a three to make it 11-8 with 14:46 to play in the half.

Bloomsburg twice had 10 point leads in the first half, the second time coming on two free throws from Oxenrider that made the score 24-14 with 6:12 to go.

Lock Haven did narrow the gap to five points, 31-26 with less than a minute to play in the half, but the Huskies scored the final four points of the period, including a layup by Wieller with three seconds to go, to give the Huskies a 35-26 lead at the break.

Early in the second half the Huskies led 38-28 on a three-point play by Oxenrider before the Lady Eagles used a 13-6 run to close the gap to 44-41 setting the stage for the Huskies second half rally.

Wieller finished with 18 points ands six rebounds, while Gallagher added 16 and Oxenrider 16 for the Huskies, now 4-0 on the year.

Lock Haven, 0-1, got 14 points from both Heather McHugh and Peaches Nesmith.
