LAKEWOOD, NJ—Bloomsburg University's
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) recorder her second career double-double as she guided the women's basketball team (10-2, 4-2 PSAC) to their fifth win in a row as the Huskies downed the Lions of Georgian Court University (2-9), 72-55.
The Huskies took an 11-4 lead at the 15:48 mark of the first half but a made layup and two free throws by the Lions cut the BU lead to three with 13 minutes to play. Bloomsburg's
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) pushed the Huskies lead back to seven with back-to-back layups at the 11:26 mark.
From there Georgian Court outscored Bloomsburg 6-1 to pull to within two points of the Huskies with 9:39 remaining. This would be as close as the Lions would be to taking a lead for the rest of the game.
Bloomsburg would go on to close the first half on a 26-10 run, claiming a 42-24 lead at the half.
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) paced the Huskies with nine points during the run while
Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) chipped in five; Flanagan would finish with five for the game.
Holding an 18 point edge, the Huskies held the Lions in check for the remainder of the second half for a 72-55 win. Bloomsburg grabbed their biggest lead in the second half with 25 points but late scoring by the Lions cut the lead to under 20.
Three Bloomsburg players finished with double figures as Wieller led all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including a perfect 3-3 mark from three point range. Noack chipped in 12 points along with an assist and a steal in an effort off the bench.
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) finished with 11 points and 10 boards, her second double-double of her career. Her first double-double performance came earlier this season in a BU win over California Pa.
Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) was three points away from scoring double digits as she totaled seven points and eight boards.
For the Lions Tahira Matthews led them with 13 points and five boards while Brittany Sims added another 11 points.
