Huskies Drain 15 Threes in Win Over Vulcans, 77-68

CALIFORNIA, PA—The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team (6-2, 2-2 PSAC) took down the Vulcans of California (Pa.) (3-3, 2-2 PSAC) 77-68.  Bloomsburg knocked down 15 three pointers and Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) recorded a double-double to pace the Huskies to their sixth win of the year.

The Vulcans jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first 4:14 of the game but the Huskies would score eight straight to take a two point lead.  At the 9:17 mark, California took a slim 17-16 lead but an 8-0 run gave BU their largest lead of the half, 24-17. 

California reclaimed the lead five minutes later but the half would come to a close in favor of the Huskies, 36-35.  Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) had a solid first half for the Huskies, scoring six points, grabbing five rebounds and assisted on five baskets.  Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) and Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) each added eight points. 

Bloomsburg opened the second half with a 14-3 run as Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) and Noack set the tone with six points a piece on four made three pointers.  The Huskies now held a 50-38 advantage with 14:12 remaining in the game. 

As time narrowed down so did Bloomsburg's lead.  The Vulcans chipped away at BU's 12 point advantage to tie things up at 57 a piece with 7:32 on the clock. 

From there Bloomsburg limited the California offense to just 11 points while scoring 20 themselves for the remainder of the game, resulting in a 77-68 win.  Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored nine of BU's last 20 points on three made three pointers. 

The Huskies shot the ball well today, going 26-58 from the field and an impressive 15-26 from beyond the arc.  Noack came off the bench to lead Bloomsburg with 17 points while Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) added another 14 points and eight rebounds.  Gallagher finished with 11 points, seven assists and five boards in addition to Ellis' 12 points and 10 rebounds. 

For the Vulcans, Amy Johns led the way with 23 points and 11 rebounds. 

Bloomsburg will be back in action on Friday, December 9 as the Huskies host Slippery Rock in a 5:30 p.m. game at the Nelson Field House in Bloomsburg, PA.
