BLOOMSBURG—
Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) scored a game-high 21 points to lead five Bloomsburg University players in double figures as the Huskies rolled to an 86-67 win over Slippery Rock on Friday night.
The Huskies, 7-2, 3-2 in the PSAC, came out quickly jumping to an 11-0 lead through the first five minutes of the game with Gallagher scoring five points and the defense forcing four turnovers. Bloomsburg added to its lead stretching it to 18-1 on a pair of free throws from Gallagher with 12:37 to play in the half.
Bloomsburg maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the half getting three-pointers from
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) and
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) and scoring from eight different players overall on its way to a 40-24 at the break.
In the second half the Huskies pushed their lead to 53-32 when Gallagher scored a conventional three-point play with 15:05 to play in the game. Slippery Rock then rallied over the next eight minutes and pulled to within 10 points, 65-55, on a jumper by Jasmine Cooper.
But the Huskies did not let the Rock get any closer using a 13-1 run in just three minutes of play to push the lead back to 22 points. Leading the rally for the Huskies was
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) who scored nine of Bloomsburg's 13 points.
Along with Gallagher's 21 points, the Huskies got 17 points from Oxenrider, 13 points from
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) and 10 each from
Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) and
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor).
Slippery Rock, 1-6, 0-5 in the PSAC, got 18 points from Cooper and 17 from Erinne Cunningham.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday hosting Mercyhurst at 2 p.m.
