BU Football To Play on National TV

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University football team will be going national in 2011.

The Huskies game at IUP has been selected as one of the six-game 2011 Division II Football Game of the Week package to be aired nationwide by the CBS Sports Network (formerly CBS College Sports) as well as syndicated to regional sports networks and local television stations and simulcast live on www.ncaa.org. The game will be played on Thursday, Sept. 15 (instead of Sat. Sept . 17) with kickoff slated for 8 p.m.

“This is great news for our football team,” said head coach Danny Hale. “It gives us a chance to showcase our team on a national stage. The only thing that would have been better is if the game were going to be played at Redman Stadium. But we are nonetheless honored to be chosen to be part of the 2011 NCAA TV package.”

This will be Bloomsburg's first appearance on national TV since the 2006 season when the Huskies played on ESPN2 in the NCAA Division II national semi-finals against Northwest Missouri State.

“Our partnership with CBS Sports Network has provided a national platform to help us tell the Division II story,” said Division II Vice President Mike Racy. “We have been able to showcase the high-level regular season competition of more than 100 Division II colleges and universities to a national audience.”

The announcement of the TV game is the second of two big announcements this month for the Huskies. Earlier it was announced that the Bloomsburg University Foundation has started a $2 million endowed scholarship campaign called the “First and Goal Campaign” to benefit the football program. The campaign is already more than halfway to meeting its goal.

Bloomsburg will kickoff off its 2011 season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. at home with Ashland University.
