BOX SCORE
BLOOMSBURG—In a matchup of two of the top teams in NCAA Division II, the third-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team beat second-ranked Shippensburg University 1-0 on Tuesday in a game played in a steady rain.
With neither team being able to mount much of an offensive threat in the opening half due to the wet field, the Huskies were able to keep the ball in the Shippensburg side of the field for a large chunk of the second half.
Bloomsburg, which had eight second half penalty corners, finally converted a scoring chance with just over four minutes to go.
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) started the corner play for the Huskies with the ball going to
Jaclyn Beasley (Berlin, NJ/Eastern) who made a quick pass to
Amber Aulenbach (Fleetwood/Oley Valley). From there Aulenbach delivered a perfect pass to DiSabatino who had positioned herself to the left corner of the goal cage and banged home the pass for the gamewinner.
Blkoomsburg did not allow the ball back to its defensive end in the final minutes and ran out the clock.
In the opening half of the game the teams went back and forth with the Lady Raiders getting off one shot and being awarded three penalty corners, while the Huskies had three shots and picked up two penalty corners.
The win gives the Huskies some revenge after losing to the Lady Raiders in the NCAA Division II semi-finals last year.
Bloomsburg improves to 3-0 with the win, while Shippensburg falls to 2-1. The Huskies are back in action on Sept. 13 playing at West Chester.
