Box Score BOX SCORE

SHIPPENSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team (12-3, 6-3 PSAC) used a 13-0 run midway through the second half to seal a 70-59 win over Shippensburg University (6-7, 3-6 PSAC).  With the win, the Huskies complete their five game road trip by going 4-1.

Neither team took a commanding lead in the first half as seven lead changes took place along with three ties.  Bloomsburg did however hold the largest lead of the half at 21-15 with 9:47 to play, but as the half came to a close BU only held a one point lead, 34-33.

Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) led BU with eight first half points while Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) added another seven.  Combined, Ellis and Gallagher made 5-of-7 shots while Gallagher hit one three and Ellis connected on 4-of-4 free throw attempts.

Shippensburg took a two point lead just 22 seconds into the second half but things would be knotted at 38 points a piece with 18:10 on the clock.

From there, Bloomsburg pieced together a 13-0 run that stretched for nearly five minutes.  Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) and Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) fueled the Huskies during the run, combining for 11 of BU's 13 points.  Wieller knocked down two three's, making up six of her seven points while Oxenrider nailed a three and two free throws.

Bloomsburg would go up 53-40 before the Raiders went on a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to trim the BU lead to just four.  However, the Huskies would go up by double digits again with 7:28 remaining by the score of 63-51.

The Raiders made one final push to cut the BU lead at 63-57 but the Huskies would hold Shippensburg to just two points in the final 5:11 of play to clinch a 70-59 win.  Credit BU's defense in the second half for limiting Shippensburg's leading scorer this season, Monae Baker, to just two second half points after scoring 13 in the first.

Oxenrider led Bloomsburg with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including two made three pointers, with which she moved into sole possession of ninth place on BU's all-time list for career three point baskets.

In addition to her 12 points, Ellis grabbed seven rebounds.  Gallagher and Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) both finished with 11 points while Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) totaled eight points and seven rebounds.

For the Raiders, Dana Wert led the team with 21 points while Baker finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Bloomsburg has now won two straight and will look to make it three this Saturday as the Huskies take on Cheyney University.  Saturday's game is Bloomsburg's first home contest of the new year and first since December 10.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
