BLOOMSBURG—
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) of the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team (14-4, 8-4 PSAC) scored a team high 16 points but it was not enough as the Huskies fell on the road to West Chester (13-3, 9-3 PSAC), 79-65. With the loss Bloomsburg falls to second place in the PSAC East while West Chester moves into sole possession of first.
The first half of play was a close one that consisted of 10 lead changes and six ties. Neither team held a significant edge but West Chester would own the largest lead of the half, 26-21 at the 8:29 mark. The Golden Rams would take a slim 37-34 lead into the halftime.
Bloomsburg's Oxenrider scored 12 first half points on 4-of-6 shooting including a 2-2 mark from three point range.
Marla Simmons (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) provided a spark off the bench, scoring seven points and pulling down four rebounds while
Danielle Derr (Dresner/Upper Dublin) added another six points and five boards from off the bench.
In the second half, Bloomsburg would go up 41-39 following a converted and-one opportunity by
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty). However, over the next 3:41, West Chester would go on a 14-1 run as they took a commanding 53-42 lead.
West Chester stretched their lead to as many as 17 in the second half but a 16-5 run by the Huskies trimmed the Golden Ram lead to just six with 1:44 to play. Unfortunately for Bloomsburg, they would be held scoreless for the final 1:44 as West Chester claimed a 79-65 victory.
Oxenrider was Bloomsburg's leading scorer with 16 points while
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) added another 14, all coming in the second half.
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) finished with six points and a game high 10 rebounds.
For the Golden Rams, three players finished with double-figures as Paige Elliott led the way with a game high 20 points.
The Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday, January 25 as Bloomsburg travels to take on East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
