Football Names 2012 Team Captains

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University football team has announced team captains for the 2012 campaign.  Jarrett Pidgeon (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional), Brandon Allen (Philadelphia/Frankford), and Chris Steck (Mt. Carmel/Mt. Carmel) have all been chosen as captains for the upcoming season.

2011 All-PSAC first team selection, second-team All-Region defense honoree and Don Hansen All-Super Region One team member Jarrett Pidgeon (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) has been selected as one of Bloomsburg's captains.  Last season Pidgeon led the Huskies in tackles and tackles for a loss with 95 and 6.5 respectively.  Against Shippensburg, the junior linebacker recorded a career high 17 tackles.

Junior offensive lineman Brandon Allen (Philadelphia/Frankford) will be another captain for the Huskies in 2012.  In 2011 Allen was selected to the All-PSAC second team for his efforts in the trenches.  He anchored Bloomsburg's rushing attack which ranked first in the PSAC and sixth in the nation.

Bloomsburg's final captain is center Chris Steck (Mt. Carmel/Mt. Carmel).  In two seasons he has started in all 24 games he has played in and is a 2010 All-PSAC first team member.  He was also a 2011 Consensus Draft Services (CDS) pre-season All-American.  Steck's efforts in the 2011 season allowed for two 1,000 yard rushers, the first time ever in school history.

The Huskies are also announcing their 2012 schedule. It will feature five home games and six road contests, including a season-opening game with first time opponent Stonehill College. The Huskies will take on the Skyhawks, which play in the Northeast-10 Conference, on Friday, Aug. 31st at 6 p.m. Stonehill will make a visit to Bloomsburg during the 2013 season.

Bloomsburg comes back home on Sept. 29 to face Gannon, then visits Millersville on Oct. 6. The Huskies will play their Homecoming game on Oct. 13 against East Stroudsburg before going to Cheyney and Shippensburg on back-to-back weekends.
