Box Score BLOOMSBURG – Seniors
Amber Aulenbach (Fleetwood/Oley Valley) and
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) scored on Senior Day to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Kutztown in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at Sports Stadium.
The Huskies (13-4, 7-2 PSAC East) honored six seniors before their game with the Golden Bears (5-11, 2-7). Along with Aulenbach and DiSabatino,
Cassie DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood),
Sandy Anceravage (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg),
Brooke Simonovich (East Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg), and
Alexis Weber (Bear, DE/William Penn) celebrated their final regular season home game with their families walking them onto the field before the game.
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) returned to the starting lineup for the Huskies and wasted no time giving BU an early lead. In the fourth minute of play,
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) lifted a shot over the Kutztown goalkeeper's pad to get Bloomsburg on an early roll.
Bloomsburg controlled much of the first half and managed 12 shots on seven penalty corners. The starting midfield of
Cassie DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood),
Candice Smith (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove), and
Samantha Facciolla (Holland/Council Rock South) stepped up to disrupt the Golden Bears from getting in transition and kept the pressure on the Kutztown defense.
Setting up off a corner in the 22nd minute, Aulenbach took some time to control the inserted pass, dribbled through the Golden Bear defense and scored her first goal in three games to give Bloomsburg a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
Aulenbach struck again in the second half to give the Huskies some breathing room. Aulenbach handled a pass off a corner from Weber and sent a strike from the top of the circle in the 51st minute for her career-high tenth goal of the season. It was her second multi-goal game of the season.
Bloomsburg junior goalkeeper
Megan Eppley (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) stepped up on Kutztown's best opportunity of the day midway through the second half. With both teams battling for possession in the middle of the field, Kutztown's Erin Reynolds broke free for a breakaway in the 47th minute. Eppley held her position and forced Reynolds to take a below average shot on goal to keep the game scoreless.
Kutztown got on the board with a goal in transition in the 61st minute. Senior forward Jenna Gregory sent a pass behind the BU defensive line, as a streaking Emily Labowitz ran towards goal and deflected the ball past Eppley for her sixth goal of the season.
The Golden Bears fought to the final whistle with some quality shots on goal off penalty corners in the final three minutes. The Huskies defense was ready for the challenge and sent away Kutztown's last minute attempts.
Eppley finished the day with eight saves in her 13th victory of the season.
Bloomsburg travels to ninth-ranked LIU Post on Friday, Oct. 19 for its final regular season contest of the year. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
