Bloomsburg put together the biggest rally in NCAA Division II history against West Chester in 2011. The Huskies trailed 35-0 with 10:29 to go in the second quarter, and then scored the next 55 points to spoil homecoming for the Golden Rams in a 55-42 victory. It was the most points all-time for the Huskies against West Chester.
The Huskies nearly pulled off a similar comeback last week in an undefeated showdown at Shippensburg. Bloomsburg trailed 35-7 at halftime, and then tied the score at 42-all with 2:39 to play. Unfortunately, the Red Raiders drove the length of the field on the final possession and scored the game-winning touchdown with four seconds left to down the Huskies, 49-42. It was the first loss in program history when scoring 42 or more points.
The setback slid the Huskies down to fourth in the latest NCAA Super Region One rankings. With just two weeks left until the postseason, it is imperative that Bloomsburg remains aggressive these next two weeks to help solidify its spot in the NCAA playoffs.
Bloomsburg head coach Danny Hale is looking to win his 212th career game this week, tying him for second in PSAC history with Millersville's Dr. Gene Carpenter. Denny Douds is the PSAC leader at 236.
Pidgeon was named this week's PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Shippensburg. The senior linebacker had a season-high 13 tackles against Shippensburg last week and had his first career interception for a touchdown. Pidgeon leads BU with 78 tackles, which rates fifth in the PSAC.
Joining Pidgeon on the defensive front last week and this season has been Webster. His two sacks against Shippensburg raised his season total to 10.5 in 2012. They are not only tied for the PSAC-lead, but are the most by a BU player in a single season dating back to 1999.
The offensive comeback was sparked on the churning legs of junior running back
Franklyn Quiteh (Tobyhanna/Pocono Mountain West). Quiteh finished with 31 carries for 268 yards and four scores, his first four TD game of the season and fifth consecutive game with multiple rushing touchdowns.
Quiteh leads Division II in rushing at 179.78 yards per game and is tied for the lead in scoring (12.00). Across all division's, Quiteh is third in rushing yardage. His 18 overall touchdowns lead the PSAC.
The Tobyhanna native has rushed for 4,825 yards in his career in the maroon and gold. He needs 175 for 5,000 career yards and 209 to pass Irv Siglar for second place in BU history. It would also move him into third on the PSAC all-time rushing list.
On the outside, Dickerson has grown exceptionally over the last month. The senior wide receiver has caught a touchdown pass in five straight games, the most by a BU player dating back to 2003. He also has three straight games of bringing in at least 100 receiving yards.
The Bloomsburg offensive line has been outstanding this season and has a strong chance to continue its success this weekend. BU has not allowed a sack in four consecutive games. It has allowed six sacks all season, tied for the lowest in the PSAC and sixth in the country at 0.67 per game. West Chester has not been able to get to opposing quarterbacks this season as it rates 13th in the PSAC in sacks at 1.78 per game.
Oglesby played a significant role in the Huskies' comeback last week on the defensive side of the ball. The senior defensive back recorded a career-high eight tackles and an interception against Shippensburg. He has an interception in each of the last two games and his three in 2012 are tied for sixth in the PSAC.
West Chester's Rondell White rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown, Brandon Monk racked up 213 all-purpose yards and host West Chester scored a touchdown on its first seven possessions en route to a 59-14 victory over cross-county rival Cheyney.
For the season, White is third in the PSAC in rushing at 123.33 yards per game as his performance against the Wolves last week marked the sixth game this year that the junior back has rushed for over 100 yards in a game.
Quarterback Mike Mattei has thrown for 2,153 yards and 24 touchdowns this season while tossing eight interceptions. His efficiency at quarterback rates second in the conference and seventh in Division II at 170.93.
Defensively, Ronell Williams is the leading tackler in the PSAC and tied for sixth in Division II with 102 total tackles, 11.33 per game. He also has six tackles for a loss and three interceptions.
Bloomsburg will move onto its final game of the regular season next week as it travels to Slippery Rock on Saturday, Nov. 10. West Chester will take on Clarion next Saturday.
