Wieller Nets 20 in Women's Basketball Win

BLOOMSBURG—Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the 25th-ranked  Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to an 84-46 win over Slippery Rock University Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Field House. The game was the opener of the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) schedule for both teams.
 
The Huskies (4-0, 1-0 PSAC) led from start to finish in the game with Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) getting the offense going with a three-pointer 90 seconds in the game. Bloomsburg continued to build on the lead and quickly pushed it to double figures when Wieller hit a three-pointer making it 13-2 with 14:50 to play in the opening half.
 
After Slippery Rock (1-3, 0-1 PSAC) scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to 13-6, the Huskies went on an 11-0 run to break open the game to give Bloomsburg a 24-6 lead at the 8:19 mark. Jocelyn Ford (Lansing, NY/Lansing) scored five of the Huskies 11 points in the run.
 
Bloomsburg continued to add to its lead and pushed the margin to 31 points at the break, 48-17, with Wieller getting 15 of her points in the first half.
 
In the final 20 minutes the Huskies' lead never went below 31 points and was as high as 47 points on three occasions, the last coming on a layup by Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) with 5:09 to play.
 
For the game the Huskies defense forced 21 turnovers and held the Rock to just 20 percent shooting from the floor (12-59) for the game. Bloomsburg also dominated on the boards getting 60 rebounds to 39 for Slippery Rock. It was the first time Bloomsburg grabbed 60 rebounds in a game since 2006 against Penn State Penn State Hazleton.
 
Along with Wieller scoring 20 points, Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) scored 12 and Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) added 10. In all, 11 of the Huskies 14 players scored at least two points.
 
Slippery Rock was led in scoring by Jazmyne Frost with 10 points, while Alexas Brown added nine points.
 
Bloomsburg returns to action on Sunday hosting 15th-ranked Edinboro at 1 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
