Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a game high 19 points, but the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team fell to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Millersville on the road, 62-55.
The Huskies (5-1, 2-1 PSAC) suffered their first loss of the season despite forcing 30 turnovers.
Wieller had five steals for Bloomsburg, and
Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) finished with eight points and four steals.
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) chipped in seven points for the Huskies, and
Danielle Derr (Dresner/Upper Dublin) added six points and a team-high five rebounds.
Millersville was led by Aurielle Mosley, who scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Carly Gallagher, sister of former Bloomsburg women's basketball player
Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South), scored nine points for the Marauders.
Flanagan scored six points in the first four minutes of play to give the Huskies an early lead, 9-4.
The teams traded baskets for the majority of the first half and neither team was able to put together an extended run. At halftime the teams were tied at 24. With 15:52 to play, the Huskies took their largest lead of the game with a
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) layup that made the score 26-30.
The Marauders hit a three-pointer with 10:31 remaining, marking the only shot the Huskies allowed from beyond the arc in the game. Overall, Millersville was just 1-9 from downtown.
After a pair of Wieller free throws, the Huskies led by five with 7:34 to play. However, Millersville closed the game on a 16-4 run to hand Bloomsburg the loss.
The Huskies take the court again Tuesday, Dec. 18 in a PSAC matchup at Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 1 p.m.
