BLOOMSBURG—
Amber Aulenbach (Fleetwood, Oley Valley) scored in overtime to lift the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Slippery Rock on Friday afternoon at Sports Stadium.
In the extra session Aulenbach was fouled while taking a shot inside the circle giving her a penalty stroke. Aulenbach then converted the opportunity into a score for the Huskies when her shot to the upper left side of the cage beat Slippery Rock goalie Courtney Lee. The goal was the fourth of the year for Aulenbach. A minute earlier Lee had come with a save on a shot by
Brooke Simonovich (East Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg) to keep the game scoreless.
Earlier in the overtime Bloomsburg goalie
Megan Eppley (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) made a big save that kept the game scoreless on a shot by SRU's Ally Banks. Eppley came out and made a sliding kick save on the play.
In the early part of the game Slippery Rock held the edge getting two penalty corner chances in the first five minutes of play. Neither team though had a great look at the goal with just five combined shots between the two teams in the opening 35 minutes.
The second half the Huskies began to assert themselves getting five penalty corners in the first eight minutes. Lee, for Slippery Rock, though, made four saves in that time.
Slippery Rock countered and had two shots in a two-minute span go wide left., then had one final look with just over 2:30 minutes to play in the game.
Eppley finished with four saves, while Lee had six for Slippery Rock. The Huskies improve to 5-1 on the year, while Slippery Rock falls to 3-2.
Before the game the Huskies held Faculty Invite Day with members of the Bloomsburg University faculty being invited to the game by the players on the team.
