Davis Wins Third Meet of the Season

COMPLETE RESULTS

BETHLEHEM—Bloomsburg University women's cross country runner Vicki Davis (New Ringgold/Schuylkill Haven) made it three wins in three races this season after capturing the top spot at the Paul Short Invitational Women's Brown race on Friday.  As a team the Huskies finished in sixth place with 291 points.

Davis, who finished seventh last year, covered the 6k-course in 21:50 to best the second place runner by 11 seconds. So far this season Davis has won events at Bucknell and Kutztown.

Davis ran stride for stride with the lead group until the final climb.  On the last climb leading to the 5k mark, she increased the pressure and dropped the remaining competitors.  At the bottom of the descent after the 5k mark, she comfortably held a 35-40m lead and maintained it through the finish.

Finishing second for Bloomsburg and 52nd overall was Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove/Bishop McDevitt) in 23:12, while Lauren Lehman (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) was third for the Huskies and 57th overall in 23:20. Taking fourth on the team and 67th overall was Kelsey Harm (Boothwyn/Cardinal O'Hara) in 23:31, while Shelby Pealer (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central) was fifth for Bloomsburg in 23:57.  Sixth for the team was Lauren Bon in 24:03, while Courtney Werner (Hudson, OH/Hudson) was seventh for the Huskies in 24:20.

"Vicki ran a very smart race today and well within herself," said head coach Bernie Empie. "She had seen much of the competition before, so I am sure that added some additional confidence for her.  She could have run a little faster if needed, but you can't ask for much more than a win.  Our team got a good gauge of where we are at and what needs to be done over the next five weeks to be strong at the end of the season."

The Huskies race at the Jack St. Clair Memorial on Oct. 6 in Philadelphia.
