CHEYNEY—
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a team-high 19 points to lead three players in double figures as the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team beat Cheyney University, 80-45, on Saturday afternoon. The win was the fifth straight for the 25th-ranked Huskies.
Bloomsburg wasted little time getting control of the game scoring the first eight points of the contest in the opening three and a half minutes of play. After Cheyney scored to make it 8-2, Bloomsburg put together a 14-0 run over the next five minutes to stretch the lead to 22-2. Wieller scored five points in the rally with
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) scoring four points and
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) hitting a three-pointer.
Later in the half the Huskies pushed its advantage to 26 points, 40-14, on a layup by Noack with 3:31 left in the half before going to the break leading 43-18.
In the second half of play the Huskies continued to build upon their lead pushing it 57-27 on a bucket by
Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) with 13:31 to go in the game. Bloomsburg's biggest lead of the game was 39 points, 73-34, on pair of free throws from
Danielle Derr (Dresner/Upper Dublin) with 7:59 to play before moving on with the 80-45 victory.
Along with Wieller's 19 points, Noack added 15 and
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) 11. In addition Ellis finished with nine points and six rebounds. In all the Huskies had 13 of its 16 players score in the game.
Cheyney, 0-14, 0-11 in the PSAC East, got 20 points from Tamara Russell, while Kyra Hines-Allen chipped in with 14.
Bloomsburg, 12-3, 8-3 in the PSAC East, plays at Mansfield on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
