BLOOMSBURG – The sixth-ranked Bloomsburg University football team raced out to a 35-0 halftime lead and never looked back, finishing off a 35-7 victory over Cheyney on Saturday afternoon at Redman Stadium in front of 2,945 spectators.
With the win, the Huskies (8-0, 5-0 PSAC East) start the season with eight consecutive victories for the third straight year.
Bloomsburg finished with 447 yards of total offense, limiting Cheyney to 263 total yards. The biggest difference came on the ground where the Huskies outrushed the Wolves (0-8, 0-5 PSAC East) by a 282-98 margin.
Franklyn Quiteh (Tobyhanna/Pocono Mountain West) needed only first half action to find the end zone four times – scoring on two runs from two yards out as well as a 13-yard scamper along with a 36-yard reception from
Tim Kelly (Camp Hill/Cedar Cliff). The PSAC's all-time leading rusher recorded 114 yards rushing on 16 carries and moves to fifth all-time in Division II history with 6,848 career yards.

Bloomsburg wasted little time in seizing control of Saturday's contest. The hosts marched 74 yards in seven plays in just over three minutes with Quiteh scoring from two yards out for the early 7-0 lead.
After the Husky defense forced a three and out from the Wolves, Bloomsburg drove 85 yards in 11 plays with Quiteh running to pay dirt once more. This time Quiteh took advantage of a busted coverage, taking a 36-yard pass from Kelly down the sidelines for the score.
A Cheyney fumble set the Huskies up for a third touchdown before the end of the first quarter.
Will Ridgeway (West Chester/Bayard Rustin) forced Cheyney's Khalif Dandy to fumble at his own 28-yard line, allowing
Shawn Mitchell (Nazareth/Nazareth) to recover at the 26-yard line to set Bloomsburg up in excellent field position. Three plays later, Kelly pushed the pile forward for a one-yard touchdown run and the 21-point advantage.
Another fumble by the Wolves – this time forced by
Ezra Ranco (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) and recovered by
Larry Webster (Hagerstown, MD/Elkton) – gave the ball back to the Huskies at their own 35. Bloomsburg found the end zone again in six plays, capped by Quiteh's two-yard scoring run.
Bloomsburg completed its scoring midway through the second quarter. The Huskies needed six plays, five of which were Quiteh runs, to stretch the lead to 35-0 on a 13-yard burst by the senior running back.
From there, the Huskies defense did the rest, keeping Cheyney off the board until the Wolves broke through on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Adler Thony to Eugene Moten with 6:24 to play in the game.
Dai'Shon Munger (Westampton, NJ/Holy Cross) carried 14 times for 109 yards while Kelly completed 10 of 13 pass attempts for 148 yards and two scores, one on the ground and one through the air.
Glenn Hutton Jr. (Sicklerville, NJ/Paul VI) led the team in receptions with five for 61 yards.
Defensively,
Tomas Cabrera (Hanover/Hanover Area) led the team with eight tackles. Ranco had an interception, forced fumble and a tackle for loss.
Jerrin Toomey (York/West York) also had a career-best seven stops and
Justin Shirk (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) added six.
Thony completed 11 of 21 passes for 165 yards with one touchdown and one interception for the Wolves. Nahum Purdie led Cheyney in rushing with 46 yards on eight carries.
Bloomsburg has a short week before returning to action in the national spotlight this Thursday. The Huskies host rival Shippensburg on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. inside Redman Stadium in a game that will be televised live nationwide on the CBS Sports Network.
GAME NOTES: Quiteh had all of his yards in the first half, rushing for over 100 yards in a first half for the 17th time … It was his 39th career 100-yard rushing game, furthering his Division II record … Quiteh now has 84 total career touchdowns, just one off the all-time PSAC record held by Bloomsburg alum Jamar Brittingham … Senior center
