EDINBORO, Pa. – Ten Huskies worked into the scoring column as the Bloomsburg women's basketball team powered past Edinboro, 84-71, in an impressive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover victory at McComb Fieldhouse on Tuesday evening.
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) led the balanced attack with a game-high 18 points while three other players also scored in double figures –
Maggie Borski (Philadelphia/Nazareth Academy) with 16 points while
Erica Maciejewski (Red Lion/Red Lion) and
Marla Simmons (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) each registered 10 points.
Bloomsburg improves to 6-2 overall on the season while Edinboro slips to 4-2.
A strong start set the tone for Bloomsburg. The Huskies were on fire from the floor during the opening period, shooting a scintillating 65 percent (19-for-29) while holding the lead for over 17 minutes of game time. Bloomsburg grabbed a 10-point lead during the early going thanks to strong shooting from the perimeter and then held off an Edinboro rally with 20 first half points in the paint to take a 47-41 lead to intermission.
Edinboro closed within a bucket at 53-51 four minutes into the second half, but a layup from
Jocelyn Ford (Lansing, NY/Lansing) began a game-changing 15-4 run over the next five minutes of game time to explode the lead to 71-57. From there the Fighting Scots never threatened with the Huskies maintaining a double digit advantage over the final 10:43.
Noack added seven rebounds to pace the Huskies on the boards along with her 18 points while Simmons also handed out six assists, tying a career high.
Bloomsburg finished the game shooting nearly 58 percent from the floor (33-57) while the Scots shot 45 percent (27-59). The Huskies registered 22 assists on their 33 made field goals and dominated bench scoring 43-14. The squads were nearly even on the boards – Edinboro held a narrow 33-32 edge in rebounding.
Laurel Lindsay led the way for Edinboro with 16 points while Valerie Majewski added 14.
The Huskies are back in action on Wednesday evening, making the short trip up Interstate 79 to play at Mercyhurst in another PSAC crossover scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
