BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team will look to respond on its home floor and remain in the hunt for the top spot in the East on Saturday, Feb. 9 when it hosts Cheyney University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Nelson Field House. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on WHLM (930-AM) based out of Bloomsburg with Larry White calling all the action. In addition, listeners throughout the world can listen to the game live on BU's website at
www.buhuskies.com. The pre-game show will begin 20 minutes before tipoff.
MATCH UP: The Huskies (15-5, 11-5 PSAC) are coming off a two-point loss to Millersville at home Wednesday night and sit in a first place tie in the Eastern Division with Shippensburg and Millersville. BU has won five in a row against the Wolves and holds a commanding lead in the overall series, 42-13. Bloomsburg has swept the season series the last two seasons and has not lost at home to Cheyney (1-18, 1-15) since the 2009-10 season (71-61).
DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE: Bloomsburg leads the PSAC and ranks 22nd in Division II in defensive field goal percentage (.349), and is fourth in the PSAC in scoring defense (58.6).
SHARE THE WEALTH: BU leads the PSAC and is 10th in Division II with 17.25 assists per game. BU is assisting on 64.25 percent of its total field goals, and has had 10 or more assists in 51 of its last 52 games.
WHEELIN' AND DEALIN': Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) is second in the PSAC in scoring (15.1), three-point percentage (.379), free throw percentage (.862), and is sixth in steals (2.4). BU's last game vs. Millersville marked the first game of the season Wieller did not record a steal.
UNSELFISH PLAY: The Huskies have three seniors on the BU leaderboard in career assists.
Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) rates third with 449 and trails Erin Beggs' mark of 456 by seven.
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) (11th - 239) and
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) (12th - 238) also rank in the top 12.
TAKING CARE: Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area)'s 2.2 assist-turnover ratio rates third the PSAC and ninth in Division II. Her 3.3 assists per game ranks seventh in the PSAC. Flanagan also has an assist in 17 straight games.
THIS IS HER HOUSE: Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) ranks fifth in BU history in blocks with 96. She needs 14 to move into fourth and tie Missy Butterworth's mark of 110 set in 1995. Ellis had a career-high five rejections against Mercyhurst. This season, Ellis is sixth in the PSAC, averaging 1.3 rejections per game. Ellis had a streak of eight consecutive games with a block earlier this season.
After its game with Cheyney, Bloomsburg hits the road for two games. It travels to Shippensburg on Wednesday, Feb. 13 with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
