SLIPPERY ROCK—The seventh-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey dropped a 3-2 decision on Wednesday to Slippery Rock University. The loss by the Huskies was the first-ever to The Rock in a series dating back to 1983.

Slippery Rock got on the board first when Lauren Geiser scored off an Allison Shade assist on a fast break give and go in the 18th minute.

The Huskies knotted the score at 1-1 when Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) scored off a Sam Peters (Yeagerstown/Mifflin County) assist. Peters crossed a ball from the right side of the cage to Domenici who tapped it in.

The first half was statistically close with the Huskies holding an 8-7 edge in shots, while SRU had a 9-5 advantage in corners.

The Rock took a 3-1 lead with a pair of goals less than four minutes apart early in the second half of play.

Bloomsburg closed to within 3-2 when Brittany Mathews (Reedsville/Indian Valley) converted a penalty stroke in the 45th minute of play.

However the Huskies could manage just one more shot on goal in the final 25 minutes of action and came up short.

The loss was the first to Slippery Rock after 38 straight wins by the Huskies. Bloomsburg falls to 2-3 with the loss, while the Rock goes to 3-2.

The Huskies host Mansfield on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sports Stadium.
