Field Hockey Loses in Overtime Thriller

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University field hockey team lost an overtime thriller Saturday 3-2 against Stonehill at Sports Stadium.
 
The Skyhawks, 1-0, opened the game with a goal 16 minutes into the first half off a corner when Erika Kelly pitched the ball high into the net over the Bloomsburg goalie's head to put Stonehill up 1-0.
 
Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) scored for the Huskies, now 0-1, off an assist from Meagen Hill (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) 11 minutes into the second half to tie the score at 1.  Stonehill responded by scoring mere seconds after to take the lead again.
 
With two minutes left on the clock Candice Smith (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) took a corner for the Huskies.  After some deflections in the scoring area she found the back of the net to tie the score at 2-2.
 
In overtime Kelly scored her third goal of the game for the Skyhawks on a break away from midfield just over a minute into the extra time to make the final score 3-2.
 
Stonehill outshot Bloomsburg, 12-10, and held an 11-9 advantage in corners.  Megan Eppley (Camp Hill/Camp Hill) made six saves for the Huskies.
 
Bloomsburg travels to East Stroudsburg Wednesday, September 11 for a 4:00 p.m. game.
