Women's Basketball Seeks To Stretch Win Streak vs. Mansfield on Wednesday

BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team returns to Nelson Field House on Wednesday evening, hosting Mansfield in PSAC East play at 5:30 p.m.
 
Bloomsburg (13-3, 4-2 PSAC East) enters Wednesday's game riding a six-game winning streak and has not tasted defeat since the calendar turned to 2014. Mansfield (0-17, 0-7) will vie for its first victory of the season.

SCOUTING MANSFIELD
The Lady Mountaineers are still seeking their first win of the year after starting the campaign 0-17. In their last time out, the Mountaineers dropped a 107-65 final score on their home floor to Shippensburg on Saturday. Senior forward Jenna Matter led the way with 16 points while junior guard Alyssa DeRichie added 15 points.
 
Mansfield ranks 17th in the PSAC in both scoring offense (61.2 ppg) and defense (78.6 ppg allowed) while allowing opponents to shoot 44.9 percent from the floor on average. Matter has been a bright spot for the Mountaineers, ranking among the PSAC leaders in field goal percentage (.451) while leading the team in scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg). Sophomore Katie Fitzpatrick (11.4 ppg) and junior Megan McSwain (11.1 ppg) also add double-figure scoring.
 
Matter is the only senior on the roster of second-year head coach Alison Tagliaferri, a star on the basketball court and softball field while playing for Mansfield from 2002-06. Mansfield boasts five freshmen, three sophomores and four juniors.
 
THE BLOOMSBURG-MANSFIELD SERIES
Bloomsburg leads 54-10

The Huskies own nine straight victories over Mansfield, sweeping the season series the past four years. Mansfield's last win in the series came on its home floor, 52-46, on Feb. 4, 2009. Bloomsburg continued its winning streak over the Mountaineers last year with a road win, 93-73, in January before registering a 63-51 triumph on Feb. 23, 2013 at Nelson Field House in the last meeting.
 
FORD EARNS AOW HONORS
Jocelyn Ford (Lansing, NY/Lansing) was named PSAC East Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week after averaging 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in a pair of Huskies victories. She was at her best during the second half rallies vs. East Stroudsburg and West Chester, tallying 20 of her game-high 23 points in the second half vs. ESU and 14 of 17 points vs. West Chester as the Huskies erased second half deficits. The junior guard is averaging 18.7 points over the past six games.

-Bloomsburg has held opponents to 38.2 percent shooting from the floor on average during its 6-game win streak.

-Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) set career highs for points (27), 3-pointers made (7) and assists (6) at West Chester.

-The Huskies went 24-for-26 at the foul line at West Chester, the second time this year they have shot over 90% at the stripe.
