Huskies Men's Soccer Rolls Past Nyack, 5-0

Box Score (HTML)

BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team put on another offensive fireworks show on Wednesday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium, using four goals during the second half to put away visiting non-conference Nyack, 5-0.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 5-2-1 on the season while Nyack falls to 0-8-1.

Bloomsburg dominated the match from the outset, quickly scoring the first goal in the 10th minute. Nick Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) sidestepped a Nyack defender at the top of the box and crossed to Spencer Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) who was able to head a ball from a half-hunched stance 10 yards out past the Warriors keeper for the 1-0 lead.

Though the score remained the same throughout the opening period, the Huskies were not short on chances, outshooting Nyack 9-2 during the first half with multiple solid opportunities.

Conrad nearly scored in the seventh minute when his shot was saved by Nyack keeper Phillip Mol. The ball deflected to the top left of the box where Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) gathered it and fired just wide. In the 32nd minute, Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem/Bensalem) shot just wide from in front following a pair of Huskies corner kicks as the hosts kept the pressure on.

Nyack had a first half opportunity in the 23rd minute when Justin Gabriele attacked on the wing, crossing directly in front to Ralph Nicholson who shot right on but was denied by Huskies keeper Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan).

The Warriors opened the second half with an early flurry as Jack Henley had a scoring chance in front, but Ott made a diving save.

Bloomsburg regained control and broke through in the 59th minute when Nate Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) crossed from the close right wing to the top of the box where Nick Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) connected on a goal to the lower right of the net and a 2-0 lead.

In the 72nd minute, it was another Izzo doing the scoring as Samuel Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) tallied his first career goal for the Huskies by taking advantage of a scrum in front. Hamilton Rodkey (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills) drilled a shot attempt that was deflected in front to Izzo who slid a shot past the Nyack keeper who had run out of the net to defend Rodkey's effort.

The hosts kept right on rolling, finding the net once more in the 81st minute. This time it was Spencer Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) earning the assist as he rushed in on a one-on-one on the near wing, then flicked a pass back to Cian O'Connell (Macungie/Allentown Central Catholic) who did the rest, scoring his first career goal over the diving goalie who was charging from the net.

Rain began to fall in the final minutes, but as a rainbow broke through the clouds Bloomsburg struck one more time. Stephen Pieri (Chalfont/Central Bucks South) lobbed a long cross to James Kiama (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) who worked free on the far wing and deposited his third goal of the year.

In all, the Huskies outshot Nyack by a 16-3 total and also led in corner kicks awarded 6-1. Ott earned his fourth shutout of the year with two saves. Mol made five saves for Nyack.

The Huskies return to action this weekend by hosting another non-conference match when Wheeling Jesuit visits on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES: The Huskies have scored five goals in three separate matches this year. The last time Bloomsburg scored five or more goals in at least three contests was during the 2002 season … With 23 goals on the season, the Huskies now rank second in the PSAC in goals scored with only Mercyhurst scoring more (25) … Bloomsburg has now won five of six matches … The Huskies rank No. 6 in the NSCAA Atlantic Region rankings.
