SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Bloomsburg University field hockey team battled into overtime on Wednesday afternoon at Slippery Rock, but the hosts scored the game-winner 8:31 into the extra period on a breakaway goal from Allison Shade.

The Huskies now stand 4-8 overall on the season and 2-7 in PSAC play while The Rock improves to 8-6, 6-4.

Bloomsburg got on the board first, striking in the 19th minute on the first goal of the season from Samantha Peters. Peters poked in a shot off a deflection from
Whitney Kowski (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) from the right side of the circle who fired in a cross which Peters put into the cage for the early advantage.

The Rock scored the equalizer at the 30:07 mark when Shade registered her first goal of the game, beating the keeper on a one-on-one following a long pass from Renee Rosenblum.

That was the only shot of the first half for The Rock as the Huskies dominated in opportunities – Bloomsburg outshot the hosts by a 14-3 margin for the contest. Those attacks did not result in any further scoring for the Huskies, however, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra stanza,
Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) immediately sent pressure with a shot that was blocked and then fired wide. Peters nearly sent the Huskies home with the win, but her shot at 75:21 was turned away by Rock defender Kelsey Gustafson in front.

Nikki Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) came close 24 seconds later, firing a shot off the post. The only shot of overtime for The Rock turned out to be Shade's game-winner, her second of the day and fourth of the year.

Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) made two saves for Bloomsburg while Carlee DuMars turned away three shots for the Rock.

Bloomsburg next travels to West Chester on Saturday.
