BLOOMSBURG - Senior
Felicia Domenici (Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) tallied a hat trick as the Bloomsburg University field hockey team rolled to a convincing 4-0 win over visiting Seton Hill on Tuesday evening at an unseasonably warm and sunny Steph Pettit Stadium.
The senior forward scored once in the first half and twice more in the second period to put the contest away and record her second career hat trick. Domenici also achieved the feat in a 2013 win at Bellarmine.
Bloomsburg completely dominated the first period, spending nearly the entire first 35 minutes attacking. The Huskies did not allow a single shot in the first half, finishing with a 6-0 edge in shots before intermission.
The Huskies broke through early, scoring just over six minutes in on the fourth goal of the year from Domenici. In a nice bit of team work,
Stephanie Halsted (Fairfax Station, VA/South County) got the ball at the top of the circle and flicked ahead to
Laura Gerhard (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) who delivered a touch pass to Domenici on the close left wing. The senior forward did the rest, punching it into the lower left of the cage for the 1-0 lead.
Bloomsburg had other opportunities to lengthen its lead, but Seton Hill goalkeeper Alexandra Piekarz made three saves during the period to keep the Griffins in the game. Samantha Peters had a great chance in the waning minutes before halftime on the left wing, but was denied on a nice defensive stop by Jessica Hefferon to keep the margin at just one.
The second period brought more control from the hosts as they found some insurance in the 39th minute when Domenici tallied her second goal of the day, punching in a shot from the near side following a pass in front by Halsted.
Domenici found the back of the cage for the third time just over five minutes later on an impressive play. She intercepted a clear attempt on the wing from a Seton Hill defender and immediately fired on goal, shooting over the shoulder of the Griffins keeper for a 3-0 advantage.
Peyton Shockley (Milford, DE/Milford) worked into the scoring at 56:53, scoring on a penalty stroke following a Seton Hill foul for her third goal of the year with a shot past the keeper to the lower right of the cage.
Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) and
Emiley Maiorana (Greencastle/Greencastle-Antrim) both saw time in the cage for the Huskies, who finished the contest with a 14-2 edge in shots and 15-2 margin in penalty corners.
Bloomsburg improves to 5-9 overall and 3-8 in PSAC play while Seton Hill slumps to 0-13, 0-11. The Huskies continue conference play by traveling to nationally ranked Millersville on Saturday at noon.
