BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team concluded its regular season the way it played most of the campaign – in winning style, using late goals from
Hamilton Rodkey (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills) and
Spencer Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) to push past Lock Haven for a 3-1 road victory on Saturday afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.
Â
The Huskies (12-4-2, 9-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) clinched the No. 2 seed and a bye in next week's PSAC Tournament before Saturday's contest ever began when West Chester fell, 3-0, vs. Slippery Rock earlier in the day. Bloomsburg sealed its spot in the PSAC Final Four to be held next Friday-Saturday at host and top-seeded Mercyhurst in Erie.
Â
Bloomsburg fell behind early Saturday when the Bald Eagles (5-11-1, 4-7) struck in the fourth minute on a goal from Jesse Smith. Lock Haven's Zach Hommey slotted a pass in the box for Smith who did the rest for the 1-0 advantage.
Â
Nate Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) knotted the score for the Huskies at exactly 11 minutes in, taking advantage of a volley in the box.
Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) bounced the ball to Conrad who found the net for his first goal of the season.
Â
The match remained tied until late in the second half, but the Huskies began to take control with a 9-4 advantage in shots following intermission.
Â
Finally, Bloomsburg broke through in the 82nd minute when Rodkey made his first collegiate goal a big one, breaking the late 1-1 tie by cutting past his defender and sending a bending shot to the far post.
Â
Spencer Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) gave the Huskies insurance late, knocking in a loose ball during the 89th minute to conclude a commanding half of play for the visitors.
Â
Bloomsburg finished with a 13-10 edge in shots for the match and was awarded eight corner kicks to Lock Haven's three.
Â
Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) tallied four saves in net for the Huskies while Lock Haven keeper Jonathan Howitt made three.
Â
With the win, the Huskies now have the second-most victories in school history with 12, behind only the 13 of the 1979 team. Bloomsburg also scored 12 wins during the 1996, 1997 and 2002 seasons.
Â
The Huskies will play the winner of No. 3 Seton Hill vs. No. 6 California (held Tuesday afternoon at Seton Hill) in the PSAC semifinals on Friday, Nov. 7 at Mercyhurst with a start time to be announced. On the other half of the PSAC Tournament bracket, No. 4 West Chester will host No. 5 Slippery Rock for the right to play top-seeded Mercyhurst on Friday.
