SCOUTING SHIPShippensburg was just .500 at 7-7 following a 68-57 home loss to Gannon on Jan. 4, but has turned the tables since that game by winning six straight. Included in the winning streak are triumphs over Clarion, Mansfield, Kutztown, Millersville, Lock Haven and Cheyney.
The Raiders had Wednesday off and last played a week ago Saturday at Cheyney, coming home with a 65-59 victory behind 17 points from sophomore guard Logan Snyder. Shippensburg ranks fifth in the PSAC in scoring at 71.9 points par game and also fifth in scoring defense, allowing 61.0 ppg. The Raiders are extremely strong on the boards, averaging a PSAC-high 43.9 rebounds per game including 14.0 offensive boards for a +6.5 rebounding margin that ranks third in the conference. Shippensburg doesn't have many unforced errors either, averaging just 15.2 turnovers per game - a total that only three PSAC teams (Cal, Gannon, IUP) surpass.
2013-14 All-PSAC East First Team seletion Stephanie Knauer is having a strong junior season, ranking 11th in the conference in scoring at 14.4 ppg and 16 games in double figures this year. Knauer leads the PSAC in field goal percentage (56.7%) and also averages 6.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore forward Morgan Griffith (11.4 ppg) and sophomore guard Lauren Gold (10.6 ppg) also average double-figure scoring.
LAST MEETING / SERIES HISTORY
Shippensburg leads 30-23Once a dominant team in the PSAC West, Shippensburg owned the early years of the series by winning nine of the first 11 meetings from 1976-1985. Shippensburg's powerhouse teams from the 90s and early 2000s also dominated the series, winning 17 of 18 contests between the 1994-95
and 2008-09 seasons.
In recent seasons, however, the tables have turned as the Huskies have won eight of the past 10 games between the now PSAC East foes. The contests have nearly always been tight - the past four games have been decided by single digits and four of the Huskies past five wins over the Raiders have been by nine points or less including the first meeting of the year on Nov. 22 when Bloomsburg held on for a 64-57 win at home. On that day,
Taylor Maldonado (Stroudsburg/Allentown Central Catholic) scored a game-high 19 points and
Adreana Sadowski (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) had a double-double of 12 points and career high 14 rebounds.
