HTML BOX SCOREBLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team upset #25-ranked Edinboro University on Saturday, 2-1, at Steph Pettit Stadium.
For much of the first half it was an evenly played game with both keepers recording four saves although the Huskies did hold a 3-0 edge in corner kicks through the first 40 minutes of action.
In the 42
nd minute of play the Huskies freshman sensation
Allie Barber (Pittston Twp/Pittston Area) sent a crossing pass to
Allie Camp (Beavertown/Midd-West). Her shot went to the top corner of the goal, hit the post and bounced in giving Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead at the break.
It stayed a 1-0 game till the 75
th minute when Grace Kereky took a crossing pass from Jansen Hartmann and headed it into the goal for Edinboro to knot the score at 1-1.
But Bloomsburg showed its resiliency by coming back with a goal nearly five minutes later. Barber, who leads the team in goals scored, lined up for a shot that hit the post.
Rachel Yenney (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) then came and drilled the rebound past the Edinboro goalie for the lead.
Edinboro kept pressure on the Huskies and got two shots off in the final five minutes, but one shot was wide and the other was saved by Bloomsburg goalie
Devon Haviland (Warminster/Archbishop Wood) giving the Huskies the win.
Barber now leads the Huskies in scoring with six goals and three assists for 15 points.
Bloomsburg is now 7-4-1, 6-4-1 in the PSAC, while Edinboro is 8-4, 7-3 in the PSAC. The Huskies play at Kutztown on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
