LAST WEEK
With first place in the PSAC Eastern Division on the line, the Bloomsburg University football team rallied for a 27-21 win in overtime over the Kutztown Golden Bears on Homecoming in front of over 5,400 fans at Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium. The win gives the Huskies (5-2, 4-0 PSAC East) sole possession of first place in the PSAC East at 4-0 with three teams bottle-necked at 3-1, tied for second. Joe Parsnik (Wilkes-Barre/Coughlin) scored the gamewinning TD in OT on a 22-yard run, the Huskies survived two KU throws to the endzone to get the win. Lawrence Elliott Jr. (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) finished with a career-high 209 yards rushing on 28 carries and one score, while Kelly was 15-28 for 189 yards with one TD and one interception. His 189 yards passing moves him to third all-time at Bloomsburg in career passing yards ahead of Glen McNamee with 6,953 yards. Chad Hoffman (Drums/Hazleton) caught seven passes for 95 yards and a score to lead the receivers. Garrett Pope (Northumberland/Shikellamy), Joe Wetty (Downingtown/Downingtown East) and Marquis Seamon (Philadelphia/Father Judge) had six tackles each to lead the defense.

Quarterback Pat Moriarty went 19-for-38 for 244 and one touchdown, but threw three interceptions that were too much for visiting West Chester (4-3, 3-1 PSAC East) to overcome in a 27-11 defeat at the hands of host Shippensburg (5-2, 3-1) at Seth Grove Stadium. Brandon Monk rushed for 73 yards, and Eddie Elliott caught five passes for 75 yards. But, the Golden Rams could not get into the end zone until just under five minutes remained in the game

FROM THE ARCHIVES With Robert Dunkelberger, University Archivist
With the victory on Saturday, Bloomsburg has now won seven consecutive Homecoming games, 12 of the last 13, 14 of 16, and 20 of the last 23 since 1993.  After losing three straight from 1980 to 1982, the team has a record in the past 33 Homecoming games of 28-5.

The Huskies has beaten Kutztown 11 consecutive times at home dating back to a 17-10 loss in 1992, and now have a home record against the Golden Bears of 15-1-1 since 1982.  Overall the team has won 22 of the last 23 meetings with Kutztown and has a record since 1982 of 28-5-1.

The overtime game on Saturday was Bloomsburg's fifth since the NCAA went to an overtime system in 1996.  The first was at Homecoming in 2003, also with Kutztown, a 35-28 Huskies win.  The team's record in the five overtime games is 4-1, with the only loss 10-7 to Gannon the last game of 2009.  All of the overtime games have lasted just one period with only one team scoring. In addition, four games have been played in Redman Stadium, and in thos games Bloomsburg has outscored their opponents in the overtime periods by a combined score of 23-3.  Only in the two games with Kutztown were the Huskies the team to tie the score before the end of regulation. The other two overtime games were a 31-24 win at East Stroudsburg in 2005 and a 24-21 home victory against California in 2014.  The latter was the only one of the five where the team having the ball first in overtime ended up losing the game.

The upcoming game with West Chester is the 74th in the series between the two schools, dating back to the first meeting in 1925.  Bloomsburg has won five consecutive regular season games from West Chester, tying the school record set from 1993 to 1997, and two straight on the road for only the second time after the back-to-back wins in 1994 and 1996.

SHORT NOTES
• For the second straight week quarterback Tim Kelly (Camp Hill/Cedar Cliff) threw for a season-high in yards this time getting 189. A week earlier he threw for 188 against Millersville, which was a season-high at that point.

• Placekicker Tyler Smith (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) connected on a career-long 47-yard field goal in the game with Millersville.

• Since 1993 the Huskies have 227 individual, 100-yard rushing performances.

• 24 of the Huskies last 27 scoring drives have resulted in touchdowns.

STINGY DEFENSE
Earlier this season the Bloomsburg defense limited Cheyney to just 62 total yards of offense, including 17 through the air. The total offense figure was the fourth least in a single game since 1993.  The only lower totals were 24 versus Wayne State in 1996 and 55 for Cheyney and 65 for Lock Haven, both in 2004.  The 17 yards passing allowed tied for the fourth lowest, after nine for Kutztown in 1997, 16 for both Cheyney and Lock Haven in the 2004 games, and 17 versus Mansfield in 2006.

The Huskies defense has recorded a shutout in back-to-back seasons.  This is the first time that has been done in a decade since the 2004 and 2005 teams combined for six shutouts in those two years.

CLIMBING THE LADDER
Paul Darragh now has 25 victories in his first 31 games as head coach, the second highest total in school history behind Robert Redman's 27.  The only other coaches to win at least 20 times in their first 30 games were Pete Adrian with 22 and Jack Yohe with 21.

OFFENSE MAKING SOME NOISE
The 63 points scored by the Huskies against Cheyney was two more than Bloomsburg had combined to score in the first four games of the season. The 63 points were the most scored by the team since scoring 61 points against Kutztown in 2010.

GETTING ON THE BOARD EARLY
Bloomsburg didn't score its first, first quarter touchdown of the year in the game with Cheyney. In the game with the Wolves the Huskies put up two touchdowns in the opening 15 minutes.

FIRST CAREER TOUCHDOWNS
Three players scored their first career touchdowns in the win over Cheyney. Eric McCracken (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia), Wade Mastrog (Chester Springs/Downingtown East) and Lamont Veal (Upper Darby/Cardinal O'Hara) all reached the end zone for the first time as a collegiate player. Quarterback Chris Palubinsky (Ringtown/Shenandoah Valley) also threw his first career TD pass when he connected with Veal on a score. Also, kicker Ryan Abbott (Hagerstown, MD/Saint James School) connected on his first career extra point.

DRIVING STATS
So far in 2015 Bloomsburg has produced seven scoring drives of 10 or more plays, the longest being a 13-play, 50-yard drive against Cal that resulted in a field goal. The Huskies also have six drives of 80 or more yards with the longest being a 95-yard, seven play drive against Cheyney. Against Kutztown the Huskies had scoring drives of 81 and 87 yards, the only game this season with more than one 80 or more yard scoring drive. In terms of time, the Huskies longest drive was 6:18 against Millersville resulting in a touchdown.

WAGNER NAMED PSAC EAST SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK (9/26)
Will Wagner (Wernersville/Conrad Weiser) was named the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Eastern Division Special Teams Player of the Week for his play in week four of the season.

Against Shippensburg Wagner punted four times for an average of 38 yards with three of his punts going inside the 20-yard line. His last punt pinned the Red Raiders inside their five-yard line. After a three and out and a short SU punt, BU scored the game-clinching TD.

WETTY NAMED PSAC EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (9/12)
Joe Wetty (Downingtown/Downingtown East) was the week two PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Week.

Wetty helped the Huskies rally from a 13-0 deficit to post a 20-13 win. The redshirt junior made six tackles on the day, five of them solo, including three sacks for 22 yards in losses. Two of his three sacks came in the fourth quarter. One was a three-yard loss on fourth down which ended a drive. The second was on Cal's last possession for a 12-yard loss which pushed the Vulcans back deep in their own territory.

A TALE OF TWO HALVES VERSUS CALIFORNIA
After allowing 243 yards of total offense to the Vulcans in the first half of their week two matchup, the Huskies defense stepped up and made a big turnaround in the second half. Bloomsburg gave up just 115 yards of total offense and no points to Cal in the second 30 minutes. Cal had 12 first half first downs and just five in the second half. In time of possession the Vulcans had the ball for just 8:10 in the second half.

AMONG THE LEADERS
The Huskies rushing attack has been among the best in the PSAC for many years. This year the Huskies Lawrence Elliott Jr. (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) is second in the PSAC in rushing yards per game with 125.6.

TWICE AS NICE
When Lawrence Elliott Jr. (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor)  (157) and Alex Gooden (Parkesburg/Octorara) (107) both rushed for 100 yards against Shippensburg it marked the sixth time under coach Paul Darragh that a pair of BU backs both rushed for more than 100 yards in a game.

CAREER DAY FOR GOODEN
Against Cheyney Gooden gained 128 yards and scored one TD one week after gaining 107 yards against Shippensburg.

BIG DAY FOR ELLIOTT JR. AGAINST CAL
It was a big day for Lawrence Elliott Jr who rushed for 166 yards and one score against Cal. Ellliott, who had just 28 yards in the Huskies opener versus Stonehill, had 70 yards at the half, including a 53-yard run to set up a field goal. In the second half he gained 96 yards and scored the game winner TD on a 24-yard run with 2:40 to play. It was his first career 100-yard game.

KELLY UNDER CENTER
Senior quarterback Tim Kelly (Camp Hill/Cedar Cliff) has been tremendously successful over his first three years as the starter, posting a 34-9 career record with his 33 victories being the most among active Super Region One quarterbacks. He continues to climb up in the Huskies record books – as he ranks third all-time in BU history with 6,953 yards passing. His 54 career touchdown passes are fourth in school history with Glen McNamee's 57 next in line.

REBOUNDING FROM LOSS
The last four times the Huskies dropped their season opening game the team went on to have a successful season. In 2010 the team went 10-3 reaching the NCAA playoffs; while in 2006 the Huskies posted a mark of 12-2 and reached the NCAA semifinals. In 2002 the team rebounded by going 8-2. In 2000 the Huskies started 0-2, but came back and reached the NCAA title game, while in 1999 the Huskies put up a mark of 7-4.

SEEKING A THREE-PEAT
Bloomsburg has won the PSAC East title in each of the past two years and will look to win the division for a third consecutive year this fall. The Huskies have accomplished that feat multiple times, winning four division championships in a row from 1994-97 and again from 2000-03. The 2013 and 2014 seasons represent the fifth time that the program has won the East in back-to-back seasons – 1984-85; 1994-97; 2000-03; 2005-06; 2013-14.

GEIGER NAMED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
Senior center Ryan Geiger (Southampton/La Salle) was tabbed a preseason All-American by The Sporting News. Geiger, a captain for the second year in a row, has started every game over the past two seasons. He moved to center last year from left guard and was named All-PSAC East as well as First Team Daktronics All-Super Region 1. Geiger helped the Huskies to over 223 yards per game on the ground in 2014 while he and his offensive line mates surrendered a PSAC-low six sacks.

SCORE FIRST AND WIN
Bloomsburg has never lost when scoring first under head coach Paul Darragh - the Huskies are 15-0 when scoring first during the Darragh Era.

PUTTING UP THE POINTS
The Huskies are 111-3 when scoring 40 points all-time. Bloomsburg tied the school record of seven games with 40+points in 2013 (2005, 2007, 2012, 2013).

CLOSING THE DEAL
The Huskies are 20-0 under head coach Paul Darragh when leading at halftime and 20-0 when leading after three quarters.

2015 CAPTAINS
The captains for the 2015 season are Tim Kelly (Camp Hill/Cedar Cliff) and Ryan Geiger (Southampton/La Salle) again taking captaincy along with Gary Postell (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) and Donovan Morris (Philadelphia/George Washington).

It will mark the second season for Kelly and Geiger as captains while Morris and Postell have been elected to the positions for the first time. A three-year starter at quarterback, Kelly has led the Huskies to a 30-6 record in 36 starts. He also ranks fourth all-time in Huskies career passing yards and touchdown passes.

Geiger was named first team All-PSAC East and first team Daktronics All-Super Region 1 after moving to center from guard this past season.

Postell has earned all-conference honors the past two seasons including a first team nod in 2014. He has accumulated 161 career tackles with four forced fumbles in three seasons as a starter at cornerback.

Morris earned a spot on the All-PSAC East Second Team last year after starting all 13 games at safety and finishing with 65 tackles, 10 pass deflections and a team-high five interceptions.
