However, the West Chester Golden Rams scored two late touchdowns to come back and post a 33-22 win over the Huskies in West Chester on Saturday in a PSAC Eastern Division matchup..
The game started out as bad as could be for the Huskies. After receiving the opening kickoff, Bloomsburg (5-3, 4-1 PSAC East) quarterback
Tim Kelly (Camp Hill/Cedar Cliff) was picked off on the game's third play with the ball returned to Huskies eight-yard line. However, the Bloomsburg defense held and West Chester (5-3, 4-1 PSAC East) settled for a 20-yard field goal from Brendan Paulison to lead 3-0.
On the ensuing series Kelly was sacked in the end zone for a safety making it 5-0 just five minutes into the game. After the teams traded punts, the Golden Rams drove 48-yards in five plays with quarterback Pat Moriarty hitting Tim Brown with a 10-yard scoring pass to make it 12-0 after the extra point.
Kelly was intercepted for a second time in the period on Bloomsburg's next possession with the ball returned to the Huskies three-yard line. Two plays later Brandon Monk scored on a six-yard run (after a penalty) to make it 19-0. For the period the Huskies ran 16 plays for six total yards.
In the second quarter, while the Huskies had trouble moving the ball, the Bloomsburg defense was clamping down on the Golden Rams forcing two punts and getting the ball on two turnovers. On the second turnover late in the first half on a muffed punt, the Huskies took advantage. Recovering the ball at the West Chester 30-yard line, the Huskies took eight plays to reach the end zone with
Tim Kelly (Camp Hill/Cedar Cliff) getting in from one-yard out to make it 19-7 at the half.
At halftime neither team was doing much on offense with West Chester netting 99 yards of offense and the Huskies just 39.
After a scoreless third period, the Huskies were lifeless in the fourth quarter until Kelly picked up nine yards on run and was hit late out-of-bounds putting Bloomsburg in great shape at the West Chester 49-yard line. On the next play Kelly hit
Connor Gades (West Chester/Unionville) for 48-yards down to the one.
Lawrence Elliott Jr. (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) then scored on a one-yard run to make it 19-14 with 5:56 to go.
The kickoff from
Tyler Smith (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) pinned West Chester back at its own 19-yard line after a short return. After a holding call, Jarel Elder fumbled with Bloomsburg's
Tyrik Clary (Philadelphia/Northeast) recovering at the West Chester eight-yard line. After an off-sides call on West Chester put the ball at the four, the Huskies needed three running plays to get a one-yard score from Kelly and, following a two-point conversion from Elliott, to suddenly lead 22-19 with 3:49 to play.
On the kickoff West Chester was stopped at its own 31-yard line, but a personal foul call on the Huskies moved the ball to the West Chester 46. On the next play, a short gain on a pass, West Chester was flagged for holding, but the Huskies were hit with another personal foul call putting the ball at the Bloomsburg 49-yard line. Six plays later Eerin Young scored from four yards out putting West Chester back on top 26-22 with 1:33 to play.
Bloomsburg's
Lamont Veal (Upper Darby/Cardinal O'Hara) then had a nice 40-yard kickoff return from the goal line giving the Huskies good field position. Kelly moved the Huskies downfield getting the ball to the West Chester 23-yard line with about 30 seconds to play. The senior then tried to connect down field, but was picked off by Shaquill James who returned the interception 92 yards for a touchdown.

Donovan Morris (Philadelphia/George Washington) had a big game with 14 tackles, 11 solo, with one forced fumble, while
Garrett Pope (Northumberland/Shikellamy) had nine tackles. Bloomsburg's defense limited the Golden Rams to just 255 yards of offense.
