HTML BOX SCOREBLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team posted a 1-0 win over American International College (AIC) on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at Steph Pettit Stadium.
The game's only goal was started on a throw-in by the Huskies in the 61
st minute. From the sideline
Stephen Pieri (Chalfont/Central Bucks South) rifled a beautiful pass to the center of the box where
Anthony Cerda (Budd Lake, NJ/Mount Olive) went up and headed the ball to a cutting
Austin Transue (Langhorne/Neshaminy) who finished the play with a solid shot that easily went by the AIC goalkeeper.
From there the Bloomsburg defense took over limiting the Yellow Jackets to just two shots, but none on goal in the final 39 minutes.
Bloomsburg nearly grabbed the lead in the 57
th minute when Cerda intercepted a pass and quickly took it down the left side, but his shot hit the cross bar and bounced away keeping it a scoreless game.
AIC's best chance to score came in the first half with 14:30 to play when Lamar Grogan's shot was saved by
Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan).
For the game, the Huskies totaled 11 shots to six for the AIC with each team getting one corner kick.
Bloomsburg goes to 9-2 with the win, while AIC falls to 3-4-2. The Huskies play at Notre Dame (OH) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
