Men's Soccer Team Advances With OT Win

HTML BOX SCORE

BLOOMSBURG-Austin Transue (Langhorne/Neshaminy) scored two goals, including the game winner with six minutes left in the second overtime, to lift the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to a 2-1, two overtime win over Lock Haven in the quarterfinals of the 2015 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) playoffs.

The Huskies will now advance to face the second seed, Millersville, on Friday at 11 am at Mercyhurst University in Erie.

In the early going Bloomsburg and Lock Haven played back and with neither team getting a good look at the goal. In the 14th minute Transue got a direct shot, but Lock Haven goalie Troy Teresak made a straight-up save to keep it scoreless.

A few minutes later the Huskies got a long ball from Nick Izzo (Frankford, DE/Indian River) to Transue, who was able to break free from a Bald Eagle defender, gather the ball in, and drill a shot to the right of Teresak for a 1-0 lead.

For the half the Huskies held a 7-4 edge in shots with Teresak making five saves for Lock Haven, while Jared Ott (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) made two saves for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg kept the offensive pressure on the Bald Eagles in the early going of the second half. Transue, who always seemed to be around the ball near the net, had two shots, one saved and one wide, in the first 13 minutes of the half.

The Bald Eagles had their first good look at the goal with less than 25 minutes to play when Troy Amspacher's shot was saved by Ott. Then about five minutes later Amspacher had another solid look, but missed wide.

Finally in the 84th minute of play, Lock Haven's Jacob Oldaker took the ball down the right side to the corner of the field where he delivered a crossing pass to a cutting Amspacher who hit the back of the net with his shot to tie the game.

In the first overtime Oldaker took a shot for Lock Haven in front of the net, but the Huskies defense was there to block it.

In the second overtime both teams were working the middle of the field when Josh Smith (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) for Bloomsburg came out of group with the ball, made a nice pass to Transue, who then took a few dribbles and hit a rocket past a diving Teresak for the game winner.

For the match the Huskies outshot Lock Haven, 21-12, and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Ott finished with four saves for the Huskies, while Teresak had eight saves for the Bald Eagles.

Transue now has 13 goals scored this season moving into ninth on the school's single season goal scoring list. Bloomsburg's 14 wins broke a mark established a year ago.

The Huskies, 14-4, will play at 11 am on Friday, at Mercyhurst in Erie. Lock Haven ends the year at 7-11-1.
