HTML BOX SCOREERIE—The eighth-seeded Bloomsburg University women's soccer team fell to top-seed Gannon University on Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the 2015 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) women's soccer playoffs by a score of 3-1. It was the Huskies first PSAC playoff appearance since 2011.
Gannon, the number one ranked team in NCAA Division II, opened the scoring in the 13
th minute when Michelle Genetin put a ball from midfield to Sammy Valloud who lofted a shot over Bloomsburg goalie
Devon Haviland (Warminster/Archbishop Wood) for her eighth goal of the season.
Bloomsburg came back and tied the score at 43:00 when, on a corner kick,
Hannah Miller (El Dorado Hills, CA/Oak Ridge) directed a ball to the box where
Chrissy Hollan (Laurys Station/Parkland) went up and headed the ball in. For Hollan it was her fourth goal of the year.
The teams went back and forth early in the second half. Gannon's Kaitlyn Kissel had a good scoring chance in the 56
th minute, but Haviland was able to punch the shot high and keep it 1-1.
The Golden Knights went ahead for good in the 62
nd minute on Mani Brueckner's 17
th goal off an assist from Becca Albert to make it 2-1.
Gannon kept Haviland busy over the nine minutes with the freshman making three saves. In the 73
rd minute Kissel took a pass from Brueckner and headed the ball just inside the right post for a 3-1 advantage.
For the game Gannon held a 19-7 edge in shots and a 12-4 advantage in corner kicks. Haviland finished with seven saves, while Shannon Differ had three for the Golden Knights.
Bloomsburg goes to 11-7-1, while Gannon goes to 18-1. The Golden Knights will host this weekend's PSAC Final Four.
